Globe Life Field in Arlington

The City of Arlington has been working with its partners at the Texas Rangers and Major League Baseball for more than a year to develop a robust safety and traffic management plan for the 2024 MLB All-Star Week. Hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors are expected to attend games and activities scheduled throughout Arlington’s Entertainment District between Friday, July 12 through Tuesday, July 16.

Members of the Arlington Police Department’s Event Management Unit traveled to the 2023 MLB All-Star Week in Seattle to get a firsthand look at safety and security measures there, which provided great insight as the City developed its own plans.

“Arlington is nationally recognized for its success hosting major events, which have included the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Game, multiple World Series, CFB Playoff National Championship, and the Taylor Swift Eras Tour. We believe we’re well prepared to welcome the crowds who will travel to Arlington for the 2024 MLB All-Star Week – and they’ll have a safe and fun time in our city,” Deputy Police Chief Leo Daniels said.

Below are some parking, travel and safety recommendations for fans attending All-Star Week events.

Travel Tips

We are anticipating large, capacity crowds at all All-Star Week events, so we encourage fans to give themselves plenty of time to get to Arlington and the event venues. The closer it gets to the event start time, the higher the volume of traffic fans should expect to encounter. Knowing where you plan to park ahead of time and mapping a direct route to that area can help you avoid traffic congestion.

As it does for other major Entertainment District venue events, the City of Arlington will activate its Traffic Management Center and implement a strategic traffic management plan. The City’s goal is to help visitors arrive at and leave the event venues as quickly and efficiently as possible while reducing impacts to non-event traffic in the area. Measures will include adjusting traffic signal timing on Ballpark Way/Stadium Drive, AT&T Way, Collins Street, Division Street and Randol Mill Road, which are the main routes into the Entertain District, to give priority to traffic heading to and from the venues. Arlington Public Works will also activate the reversible lanes on Collins and Division streets to create additional lanes to help with traffic flow before and after events. Visitors are encouraged to use Waze to navigate traffic closures and detours.

Rideshare

For fans using rideshare services like Uber, Lyft, or Arlington On-Demand, the designated drop-off and pickup location along Chapman Cutoff, which is located just east of Globe Life Field near Lot C. To keep traffic flowing and to ensure pedestrians are not unsafely darting across roadways as they attempt to exit / enter a vehicle, passenger unloading is prohibited along most roadways around the ballpark. Those areas are clearly marked with signage. Officers will be enforcing this.

It’s also important to remember that demand for rideshare vehicles will be extremely high after the event – and fans using rideshare to get home should expect to wait for a vehicle. The City has put additional traffic management measures in place after event (road closures, one-way streets, etc.) to help move traffic safely and efficiently away from the event venues. If you attempt to call for rideshare from a different location other than the designated pickup location along Chapman Cutoff, chances are your driver won’t be able to reach you. We will have additional police officers posted to ensure everyone waiting for a rideshare feels and remains safe.

Fan Safety

  • When you’re walking between the parking lots and the event venues, please use designated crossings and crosswalks. Outside the venues, officers will be helping with traffic control and getting fans safely to their destinations. Officers will be posted up at most major intersections throughout the Entertainment District and at designated crosswalks. Fans will also see officers near the venue entrances and on bikes roaming around parking areas and public gathering spaces.
  • The goal is to be visible so if any fans need assistance, they can easily find an officer to help.
  • Inside the venues, APD officers and our law enforcement partners will be posted up in strategic locations around the stadiums so they can respond quickly if they’re needed.
  • If fans see anything that looks suspicious or that concerns them, they should report it to the nearest officer, stadium security staff member, or guest relations employee so that we can respond accordingly.
  • You should never accept a ride from a driver who tries to solicit you. You should only get into a marked taxi or a vehicle that you have confirmed is being driven by a legitimate rideshare driver.
  • Don’t drink and drive. We will have officers out looking for DWI drivers.
  • Hydrate, have fun and be safe. Unruly fans or fans who get into fights may be removed from event venues.
