2023 Annual Report cover

The Arlington Police Department has released it’s 2023 Annual Report, which provides a comprehensive look at the department’s achievements, new initiatives, and crime statistics from the past year. It also highlights different units within the department to give community members a better understanding of how their police department works.

Highlights of the 2023 report include:

  • In 2023, overall crime was down six percent from the previous year, including a 17 percent reduction in violent crime. This marks the second straight year Arlington has seen a reduction in overall crime.

  • The department created a new Human Trafficking And Exploitation (HEAT) Unit to more effectively investigate, dismantle, and disrupt human trafficking / child exploitation activity in Arlington. In 2023, the unit filed 132 cases with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

  • Led by the Event Management Unit, APD successfully hosted six sold-out games during the 2023 MLB Postseason in partnership with the Texas Rangers and City of Arlington. The unit was also instrumental in the planning, security, and execution of the World Series Championship Parade, which had an estimated turnout of 500,000 – 700,000 people, the largest crowd in Arlington history.
  • The department continued to build on its tradition of community policing with the introduction of new initiatives like Coasters with Cops, the expansion of programs like Cooking with Cops and Police Activities League (PAL) camps, and the purchase of a new gaming truck that will make its debut in 2024. Arlington also regained the top ranking in the nation for participation in National Night Out.

“It’s my hope that community members will take the time to read this Annual Report and learn more about the tremendous work the men and women of the Arlington Police Department are doing,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “I’m incredibly proud of the department’s efforts to reduce crime, engage with our community, and to improve the quality of life in our city. Momentum is on our side and I believe we can continue to move in a positive direction in 2024.”
