Arlington Public Libraries Director Norma Zuniga

Congratulations to Arlington Public Libraries Director Norma Zuniga, who received the 2024 Woman of the Year Award by the Arlington branch of the American Association of University Women.

The AAUW’s award is given annual to a woman who exemplifies the association’s mission to advance equality for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. AAUW was founded in 1882 by a group of 65 graduates of eight colleges. The Arlington branch was founded in October 1952. The association said Zuniga’s name has come up many times in the past five years as the new Downtown Library was planned and built, as updates were made systemwide for the Arlington Public Library, and as the City’s literacy programs were enhanced.

Zuniga began her career in Arlington 22 years ago as a children’s librarian. Other chapters in her extensive Arlington Public Library career include serving as Downtown librarian, area branch manager, administrator for public service and administrator for operations and facilities. In those roles, she has worked to ensure the Arlington Public Library keeps pace with changing technology and provides access to educational programming, arts and cultural opportunities, resources and services that best meet our community’s needs.

Zuniga, who was named the Arlington Public Libraries director in 2020, is a graduate of Saint Joseph College and Texas Woman’s University.
