The Arlington Public Library joins the nation in celebrating Black history and community this February. In honor of Black History Month, the library will host a series of programs throughout the month.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of the culture and achievements of African Americans. Established as one week in 1926, it was expanded to a month in 1976 by President Gerald Ford. Since then, every U.S. President has recognized February as Black History Month.
During this time, the nation observes the contributions of African Americans in politics, sports, entertainment, and more. It is also a time to reflect on the many who fought for civil rights. Learn more about Black History Month at www.africanamericanhistorymonth.gov.

Join us for a talk with Dr. Kenton Rambsy on Jay-Z, diversity, and inclusion. Dr. Rambsy is a professor at The University of Texas at Arlington and teaches a course on reading Jay-Z lyrics as poetry.
