Arlington North Rotary Club Pushes to End Alzheimer's Everywhere Through Five-Mile Wheelbarrow Walk on Saturday

This year, the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s, will be everywhere - on every sidewalk, track, trail and...wheelbarrow!
Joe Bruner, Arlington North Rotary Club member and owner of Hotworx of Arlington-Viridian, will be leading the Wheelbarrow 5 Mile Push for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, in Arlington. Bruner’s Walk team represents members of the Arlington North Rotary Club and their families; Hotworx staff and members; Edward Jones staff; and many other friends and family - all will be taking turns pushing a wheelbarrow from Hotworx in North Arlington to Arlington City Hall - a five mile trek.
"Our five mile journey represents the 5.8 million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer’s today,” Bruner said. The pandemic is changing how we walk, but it doesn’t change the need to walk,” said Holly Clinton, Walk Manager for the Arlington Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “This year, more than ever, we need to come together to support all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia.
During the Wheelbarrow 5 Mile Push, Bruner and other Rotarians will be hoping to attract enthusiasm and donations along the way.
"We all know many victims and caregivers of this dreaded disease,” states Bruner. “This is our inspiration for the wheelbarrow push and why we and other Rotarians support a world without Alzheimer’s. Doreen and I will dedicate our walk to our loved one, Dolores.”
All are welcome to attend Hotworx of Arlington-Viridian (3990 North Collins, Ste 112) at 9 a.m. this Saturday as they begin their 5-mile trek. Hotworx will stream the Walk to End Alzheimer’s online Opening & Promise Garden Ceremony 9 a.m. and sponsor a first come first serve breakfast. The wheelbarrow walkers are expected to arrive at City Hall at 11:30 a.m.
This year, Rotary International has made a commitment as a National Walk Team to raise $250,000 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, via the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Rotarian Action Group (ADRAG). ADRAG is a collection of Rotarians and Rotaractors dedicated to helping those who face the challenge of dealing with family members and citizens afflicted with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. All donations taken during the Wheelbarrow 5 Mile Push and to the North Arlington Rotary Club Walk team will support Rotary International’s fundraising commitment as a 2020 National Walk Team.
Sponsors of the Wheelbarrow 5 Mile Push include the Arlington North Rotary Club, Edward Jones, Hotworx of Arlington-Viridian and Urban Alchemy.
