The Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration has reached a milestone. This year, the Arlington community commemorates 25 years of MLK celebrations.

The Arlington MLK Celebration started in 1989 with a worship service on Dr. King's birthday at First United Methodist Church. The celebration has since evolved into one of the largest in the country, spanning four days and involving thousands of families. The four-day celebration begins Friday, Jan. 17 with award-winning journalist Roland Martin as the keynote speaker. Martin is a former CNN political analyst, author and host of News One Now, a weekday national news program on TV One.

In addition to the awards banquet, the celebration also includes a step show competition, multicultural festival, ecumenical worship service, a community dialogue on diversity, a resource fair for veterans, day of service and a youth musical extravaganza. The Committee will also award $4,500 in cash and scholarships to six Arlington area youths whose essays and artwork best represent the principles of Dr. King and the movement for justice and equality in America.
