Clarence Thompson was a local developer and builder in Arlington, building more than 100 homes and the Coronado Square Shopping Center. Thompson was on the Planning & Zoning Commission for 12 years and served on numerous community boards.

Clarence Thompson Park received new and improved playground equipment in 2023. Improvements include new playground equipment for children ages 5-12 and 2-5 years old. Renovations also include replacement of the swings for both age groups. New features were introduced including musical instruments, multiple individual play pieces, new playground safety surfacing, and a new drainage system.
