Here are a few ways you can enjoy your weekend in The American Dream City. 

Taylor Swift The Eras Collection and more at Arlington Museum 

Curated by the Arlington Museum of Art from Swift’s own private collection, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Collection is an exploration of Swift as an evolving, boundary-pushing artist. The exhibition will feature original costumes, photographs, videos, and more representing several of her creative periods, or “eras.” Highlights of the exhibition are eight costumes worn by Swift from her record-breaking albums Midnights, folklore, Red (Taylor’s Version) and Fearless (Taylor’s Version). Admission into Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Collection will grant admission to the Girl in a Country Song, Hometown Harmonies, Toni Martin: Butterfly Kisses exhibitions. All exhibition runs through Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023.

Oktoberfest Food Festival

Head over to Six Flags Over Texas through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 to enjoy craft & seasonal brews complimented with a menu of German inspired cuisine at the park’s Oktoberfest Food Festival. Celebrate Oktoberfest with Six Flags by adding a Taste of Oktoberfest Sampler to your order. Six Flags Over Texas is offering over 30 beers and wines during our Oktoberfest event, including a popular list of “Oktoberfest” favorites.

Joseph Farbrook: A Mirror in the Void – Reflections of Consciousness 

The Gallery at UTA is pleased to present Joseph Farbrook: A Mirror in the Void – Reflections of Consciousness, an investigation into sentience expressed through digitally designed and fabricated forms integrated with experimental screen and projection technologies. The exhibition includes video sculptures, virtual reality, interactive pieces with live streamed text, videos, and animations projected on mirrors and viewers’ faces, a 3d printed video sculpture with autostereoscopic screen, and an immersive 4-channel video projection room.
Farbrook is an American artist who received his MFA in Media Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and currently is an Associate Professor teaching New Media at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He invents customized media platforms that mix physical and virtual art making practices, and within his work he explores the evolution and consequences of cultural mythology and mediated perception.
Farbrook exhibits his work regularly in galleries, museums, and installations worldwide, including Meow Wolf, SIGGRAPH, International Symposium for Electronic Arts, CURRENTS, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Watermans Gallery (London), Cyberarts Gallery, and numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, as well as other national and international sites.
There will be an opening reception 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, with brief remarks by the artist at 6:30 p.m. In addition, a gallery talk/tour conducted by Farbrook will take place 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. The exhibition, reception, and talk are free and open to the public.

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library as we playfully discover the world around us!  Designed for ages 1-4. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. Outdoor Storytime at River Legacy Nature Center

Join the Arlington Public Library at River Legacy Nature Center for stories and nature with a special outdoor storytime, weather permitting, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2023. The program will be moved indoors in the case of inclement weather. Click here to register.

Friday Night Skate

Friday Night Skate is back 7 p.m. every Friday at Elzie Odom Athletic Center. This event is for ages 13 and younger, and the cost is $15 per child. Pre-registration is required. You will have a blast skating with your friends, playing games, and participating in skating activities throughout the evening! Two slices of pizza and a 12oz drink can be added on for an additional $5. Click here to register.

Levitt Pavilion Fall Concert Series 

Levitt Pavilion Arlington’s Fall Concert Series kicks off 7 p.m. Friday, Sept 8, 2023, with Ottoman Turks opening for The Buffalo Ruckus, and then 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, with The Vintage Yell as the opening artist for Kin Faux. These concerts are free. Open seating is available on the lawn. Please bring blankets and lawn chairs. Wings host the Seattle Storm

Your hometown WNBA team, the Wings, take on the Seattle Storm in their home season finale 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at College Park Center. For ticket information, click here

Rangers host Twins  

Your hometown Rangers host the Oakland A’s for a three-game homeset at Globe Life Field with first pitches slated for 7:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023. Learn more about tickets and promotions on the Rangers’ website

Fused Glass at Catalyst Creative Arts

Fused Glass is a fun activity using pieces of colored glass and a kiln to create customized projects like sun-catchers, earrings, pendants and Christmas ornaments. Catalyst Creative Arts’ artists will guide you through fused glass construction methods and glass cutting tool use. It takes place 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023. Projects will be left at the studio after the class and fused in our kiln and will be ready filled pick up in about one week. No experience necessary. Recommended for 8-year-old and up. Social at Night

Eastside Chalk Walk

This family day 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Bob Cooke Park combines fitness, the outdoors, and art. The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department’s staff provides the chalk if you bring your creativity! Take a walk along the trails and find the perfect spot to draw your positive and inspirational artwork. Then, continue around the park to take in the sights of other people’s creations. We will have light refreshments and raffles for our participants. Click here to register!

Super Service Saturday

Kick off the UT Arlington academic year by giving back to the Arlington community. Super Service Saturday takes place 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, where you can donate your time by serving at any of several project sites on and around UTA. They will start the day with breakfast in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at 9 a.m. before departing for service projects. After service projects wrap up at noon, all participants can receive a free lunch in the Palo Duro Lounge as thanks for their hard work!

W.A.T.E.R. Festival 

Join River Legacy Nature Center for their W.A.T.E.R. (Water Awareness Through Education & Recreation) Festival, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, to celebrate the wonderful resource of water with a variety of experiences, crafts, and demonstrations during this free festival for the whole family. Note that parts of our Discovery Room exhibit will not be accessible during this festival.

Mobile Pet Adoption Event

Join Arlington Animal Services inside PetSmart at Arlington Highlands for a tail-wagging, family-friendly, pet-saving community event 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. Adorable adoptable pets looking for new homes will be available inside PetSmart and ready for immediate adoption. Scheduled events are subject to cancellation without notice due to unfavorable weather conditions (heat, cold, storms, etc.) for the safety and protection of adoptable pets, volunteers, and staff.

Welcome Back to Hogwarts!

The George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A has been transformed into the world of Harry Potter for the day! Put on your wizard robes and join the APL for this come-and-go family event 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. Families can make magical crafts, go through a Hogwarts Houses scavenger hunt, play a mini Quidditch game, create a wand, and more on the 1st floor children’s department and 2nd floor teen area. Handbuilt Pottery Vase Workshop at Catalyst Creative Arts

This Handbuilt Pottery Vase workshop will be held over two Saturday afternoons. First Saturday is 3 hours: design a vase template, roll slabs of clay, use template to cut vase sides, practice hand building techniques on practice clay, assemble the vase, smooth and refine vase surface. Second Saturday 1.5 hours: learn glazing techniques, glaze the vase. The first class takes place 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, and the second class takes place 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, both at Catalyst Creative Arts. For more information, click here.

Crochet for beginners Ages 9+

Jump into the hobby of crochet! The Arlington Public Library’s staff will teach you about hooks, yarn, and basic stitches to get you started on your journey 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. This class is limited to the first 7 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+.

MexTour: Mexico vs. Australia

The recently crowned 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Champion Mexican Men’s National Team will play four matches in the United States this Fall as part of the 20th anniversary of the MexTour, including a matchup against Australia at AT&T Stadium on 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. Fùtbol Fiesta will take place in Lot 4 same day from 4-8 p.m. with no ticket required to attend! Tickets are on sale now on SeatGeek.com.

¡Viva Tejas!

Head over to Texas Live! 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, as the Texas Rangers celebrate Hispanic culture together throughout the season. As a way to recognize and empower the Hispanic community, Viva Tejas welcomes you to CBD Kratom Backyard one Home Saturday Game every month, highlighting Hispanic traditions through food, live music, vendors, games, and more! This Saturday, there will be live music by La Fiera De Ojinaga. 

Fight Night Live! 

 Fight Night Live! is the ultimate watch party for the upcoming matches at Texas Live! Sunday Brunch

Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon french toast and served with maple syrup! Centennial Tiny Art for Adults

Celebrate the Arlington Public Library's 100th anniversary and make your mark in our history by participating in this community art project 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023 at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. During the month of September, adults are invited to this drop-in art session to create miniature paintings inspired by the prompt: "What does community mean to you?" These tiny works of art will be put on display during the Centennial Gala in November.
