UTA students participate in bed race tradition

This is the time to celebrate all things UTA. The University of Texas at Arlington is hosting its annual spirit week March 20-27, 2020.

Your favorite traditions will return including the famous bed racing event. 

Here are a few ways to show your Maverick pride.

Friday, March 20:

Maverick Spirit Pageant
Brazos Park
7 p.m.

Kicking off UTA Spirit Week, The Maverick Spirit Pageant is focused on showcasing UTA spirit and pride within the community. Selected contestants will compete for the chance to be crowned Most Spirited Maverick and win a $500 scholarship! A new endeavor, the Maverick Spirit Pageant aims provide a platform for individuals to tell their Maverick story, engage with others, and spotlight their spirit for UTA.

Monday, March 23:

Get the Scoop
UC Mall
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Treat yourself to free ice cream as you “Get the Scoop” about the UTA Ambassadors program.

Tuesday, March 24:

Donation Drive
UC Mall
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Support the community by donating canned goods that will be given to the UTA Food Pantry. Please do not donate expired canned foods. The following items are suggested donation items:shelf-stable milk, small or medium boxes of cereal, boxes of instant oatmeal, jars of spaghetti sauce, pasta and canned tuna or canned chicken.

Trivia Night
Palo Duro Lounge
7 p.m.

Test your knowledge of UTA facts and history. Student organizations/teams will compete head-to-head in a Jeopardy-style competition. Fill out the online registration form to compete.

Wednesday, March 25:

UTA Bed Races
Maverick Stadium
7-10 p.m.

Join the fun as teams of students push beds on wheels while decked out in creative costumes at the University's "longest running" tradition. This year's theme is a throwback to the 80s. Racers and non-racers are encouraged to wear themed costumes and enter the costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Bed Races began in 1980 to celebrate the opening of Maverick Stadium. Racing beds are provided. Teams of five may register to enter the races. General admission to this event is free and open to the campus and community; entry into the races requires registration and payment of participation fee by the deadline.

Thursday, March 26:

Day of Service
Mission Arlington
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Student organization members, officers and advisers are encouraged to volunteer alongside the Office of Student Organizations staff at Mission Arlington, located just off campus at 210 W. South Street. Please RSVP as your commitment to participate.

Show your Maverick pride at this Pep Rally to close out Spirit Week, with UTA Athletics, Spirit Groups, and UTA Marching Band! Spirit Week winners will be announced at the Pep Rally!
