This year the Animal Services Angel Tree is magical! It uses technology to make holiday wishes for shelter animals and animal lovers in your life come true from the comfort and safety of your home!

The Angel Tree is filled with customized Christmas wishes with easy to scan QR codes that link to a wide range of gift giving ideas. All the animals featured on the Christmas gift tags have been in the shelter’s care over the past year.

“It is always so heartwarming to see the community come forward this time of year for the animals,” said Christie Compton, interim shelter operations administrator. “We accept donations year-round, but it is extra special to see them under the Wish tree.”

Not sure how to use a QR code? Open the camera on your mobile device and hover over the square. After a second or two, an alert to open your internet browser will appear which will include the direct link to shop or donate, depending on the item scanned.

Prefer to visit in person to view the Angel Tree? Animal Services is located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. If you are at the shelter and have any trouble scanning a QR code, please let an Animal Services team member know, and they will be happy to help!

Donations provide enrichment for shelter animals, aid with animal victims of cruelty and other lifesaving programs, or, for the animal lovers in your life there is a VIP cookbook available with a $15 donation. The cookbook is filled with recipes and endearing stories of shelter animals adopted and rescued. Donations for the cookbook help VIP pets housed at the shelter!

Simply choose a gift item, scan the QR code and link directly to wish list items on Amazon, or the Arlington Online Store. The Angel Tree will be up in the shelter atrium through Jan. 4.

Shelter staff want to make animals in their care as comfortable as possible. Donated items such as peanut butter lick mats, toys, treats and more, help the animals feel safer and more at home while in shelter care.

Another gift idea is to honor a special person or furry friend with a custom engraved brick paver to have placed on the commemorative Animal Services walkway. A $100 donation will provide a meaningful tribute to a loved one.

Every donation, no matter the dollar amount, directly impacts animals in our care. Make a wish come true for a shelter animal or animal lover in your life – and best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.
