Ben Thanh Plaza to Host Lunar New Year Festival This Saturday in East Arlington

Lunar New Year Lion Dance

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger this weekend at the annual Lunar New Year Celebration at Ben Thanh Plaza in East Arlington.

The celebration, which is expected to include a Lion and Dragon dances and fireworks, starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, in front of Ben Thanh Plaza, located at 1818 E. Pioneer Parkway. Events later in the day include a traditional New Year’s ceremony for invited VIP guests between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., followed by live music until about midnight near the food court. The festivities are open to the public.

The Lunar New Year, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 1 this year, embraces the cultures of China, Korea, Vietnam and other countries that observe the lunar calendar. According to 2020 U.S. Census Bureau statistics, more than 26,000 Arlington residents are of Asian descent.
