Ask Arlington: Nonprofit Information and Resources Available for Housing and Rental Assistance

Many families now find themselves in unprecedented economic hardship, but help is available. In the latest Ask Arlington, we show you a few of the resources available to navigate these times.

Could you let me know about any housing and rental assistance available to residents during the pandemic?

Over the next few weeks, the City will begin rolling out a series of rental assistance and eviction prevention programs. If you visit and complete the pre-application survey at the green "Arlington Cares" button, we’ll notify you when assistance is available. If you prefer not to complete the pre-application, just check back frequently for announcements about available assistance.

Also, just under the "Arlington Cares" button is another link to a tremendous amount of information about the federal moratorium on evictions and resources for food, utility assistance, and other needs.

What nonprofits can help me with food and other urgent needs for my family?

We know many families are facing hardships they’ve never seen before. but our Arlington nonprofits are ready to help. If you need food assistance, click here or call the Tarrant Area Food Bank at 817-534-0814. The organization is working with our local nonprofits to coordinate meal distributions. You can also call Mission Arlington at 817-277-6620.

Additionally, the Arlington Public Library is providing free meals for children at three different branches through August 5, 2020. Click here for more information. And if you’re able to help – these great partners could use your support now more than ever.

How is the federal CARES Act benefiting nonprofits in the Arlington community?

Non-profit organizations quickly adjusted their operations to implement social distancing and increase sanitation while continuing to provide families with basic necessities — everything from food to transportation, child care to housing resources, and even wellness calls for our most vulnerable neighbors. The City’s federal CARES Act funding will support these non-profits to provide increased services for food and meals, youth programming, senior services, and rental assistance. CARES Act funding will also be used to support our three local homeless shelters and to prevent homelessness.

The City recently invited non-profit organizations to apply for CARES Act funding through the community development block grant program. The applications will be reviewed by the United Way grant review committee and then City Council to ensure these funds are spent wisely and used for services that are doing the most good in Arlington.
