The Arlington Police Department is inviting the community to join them in paying tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service to the city.
Since the department’s inception in 1884, eight officers have been killed in the line of duty.

- Gary Harl – End of Watch: July 16, 1975
- Terry Lewis – End of Watch: October 9, 1992
- Jerry Crocker – End of Watch: October 9, 1982
- Craig Hanking – End of Watch: August 3, 1994
- Joseph Cushman – End of Watch: June 7, 2001
- Craig Story – End of Watch: January 13, 2010
- Jillian Smith -- End of Watch: December 28, 2010
To honor their sacrifice, the department hosts a public memorial ceremony every May at Heroes Park that coincides with National Police Week.
In light of current state, county, and city public health guidelines, this year, the department opted to produce a video ceremony in lieu of an in-person event. Citizens can view the ceremony by clicking on the video box at the top of this page.
“Say a prayer for their families, say a prayer for the sacrifice they gave this community, and honor their memory by being the hope,” said Police Chief Will Johnson. “Be the hope for others, so we might live together in peace and harmony, and truly live in the prosperity that only this great country offers us. We honor their memory. We will never forget.”
National Police Week begins Sunday, May 10 and runs through Saturday, May 16.
