The Arlington Public Library is now registering students for free adult education classes this fall. English as a Second Language and High School Equivalency (GED) classes will begin in September, with classes available in the morning and evening to fit busy schedules. All class materials are provided.

Classes are offered through Arlington Reads, the library’s adult education initiative. Begun in 2009, Arlington Reads began in 2009 and is an accredited program, staffed by certified teachers. All Arlington Reads services are at no cost to the student through a partnership with the Tarrant County Adult Education and Literacy Consortium and Texas Workforce Commission.

Registering for a class is the first step in making dreams come true. In June, 10 Arlington Reads students earned their high school equivalency certificates after taking free classes at the Arlington Public Library.

“Thanks to Arlington Reads I have been able to fulfill a lifelong dream to walk at my graduation,” says graduate Valencia Olvera-Gensollen, pictured. “Thank you to the Arlington Public Library for having amazing free programs in the community to help guide and support people needing to continue education.”

With their high school equivalency, Valencia and other graduates are ready for next steps, advancing in their careers and reaching higher levels of education.

“I want to be an example for my children that dedication, sacrifice, perseverance and hard work pays off, and although it might not be easy, anyone can accomplish their goals,” she says.
