The National Association of Town Watch announced this week that Arlington took home the top spot in their 2021 national awards program, which recognizes community and department participation during National Night Out.

This marks the second straight year Arlington has been awarded first place -- and the third time in the past four years the city has received top honors among communities with more than 300,000 residents.

More than 115 Arlington neighborhoods, organizations, and businesses hosted National Night Out block parties this year. The goal of this annual event is to bring together neighbors, community leaders, police, and other first responders / city employees in a fun, relaxed environment so they can forge lasting relationships that will help strengthen the community.

“We are incredibly honored to earn this recognition for a second straight year and I think it says a lot about our department and our community,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “We know we can’t do our jobs effectively without the trust and support of the people we serve. The level of participation and engagement that we experienced during National Night Out was tremendous and I couldn’t be more proud.”

The awards program is based on a variety of factors including the overall quality of the event, neighborhood engagement, and law enforcement involvement.
