The Arlington Police Department responded to a major crash in the 1100 block of I-20 on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 2:28 a.m.

There were two separate crashes in the westbound lanes at the location. The first crash involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle consisting of a truck-tractor and semi-trailer. Investigators believe the passenger vehicle swerved towards the commercial vehicle and made contact, resulting in the initial crash. The driver of the commercial vehicle attempted to take evasive action which caused the truck-tractor and semi-trailer to jackknife across all the westbound lanes of the Interstate.

A second passenger vehicle was traveling westbound and struck the semi-trailer. The driver of this passenger car, a female in her 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial driver that swerved towards the commercial vehicle was arrested by officers for Intoxication Manslaughter and has been identified as Michael Bailey, a 38-year-old resident of Arlington.

The highway was closed for several hours while emergency crews cleared debris and leaking fuel from the roadway, but has since reopened.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified. The crash remains under investigation.
