The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation recently awarded SafeHaven of Tarrant County with a $50,000 grant. The nonprofit will use the money to pay for building and grounds maintenance ($20,000) and equipment ($30,000.)

SafeHaven is the largest and most comprehensive domestic violence agency in the region. Its Arlington shelter has the capacity to house 72 people a night and will serve about 550 women and children this year.

“SafeHaven prides itself in giving the victims of domestic violence who reside in our Arlington shelter a clean, welcoming, and functional environment,” said SafeHaven CEO Kathryn Jacob. “When the shelters are kept in good shape, it signals to victims that SafeHaven is investing in their futures to live lives free from violence one day,”

The most dangerous moments for a woman coms after she decides to leave. SafeHaven is there in these critical days to provide shelter, support and access to life-changing services – all free to families. The nonprofit incorporates trauma-informed care into its services. This includes more meetings with counselors, case managers and other support staff assisting with healing and recovery. While the average stay is longer than at many other shelters, women leave more empowered to enter a new chapter.

“The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation is dedicated to helping build strong and successful families and, ultimately, a better community for us all,” said Carolyn Mentesana, executive director. “We are delighted to come alongside SafeHaven and support their vital efforts to serve Arlington’s most vulnerable families.”

With help from The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, SafeHaven of Tarrant County will continue to offer families a clean, welcoming and functional environment.
