As a teacher's assistant at Green Oaks School, Veronica Lopez knows how to connect with students. That's because she used to be one.

Lopez completed Green Oaks' adult learning program, where she quickly caught administrators' eyes. "She did such a great job with that. She had real, natural talent at working with children," said Green Oaks Director of Education Leigh Weedman. "We hired her as a teacher's assistant."

Lopez has Down syndrome and is able to inspire other students with intellectual disabilities. "They're able to look to her and say, 'Wow, look at what Veronica has done. I can do that too,'" Weedman added.

Teaching is a dream job for Lopez, who enjoys the variety each day brings. "Since I'm a teaching assistant, I feel happy," she said. Now, living her dream, she's helping other students realize theirs.
