Animal Essay Contest

Congratulations to all of our 2021 Sheri Capehart Animal Essay Contest winners! The City of Arlington recently recognized 12 talented third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders during a virtual celebration.

The essay contest, implemented in 2001, is designed to promote responsible pet ownership and is open to students who reside in Arlington and attend public, charter and home schools in the city limits.

This year's winners are:

Grade 3

Essay Topic: If you could make up a holiday for animals, what holiday would it be and how would you celebrate it?

  • 1st place: Zoe Wolfe, Little Elementary
  • 2nd place: Reagan Capps, Little Elementary
  • 3rd place: Cambry Lavigne, Little Elementary

Grade 4

Essay topic: How do you think animals communicate with people?

  • 1st place: Lucas Douglas, homeschooled
  • 2nd place: Abby Tettleton, Wood Elementary
  • 3rd place: Ryder Whitehead, Mary Moore Elementary

Grade 5

Essay topic: If you could make one rule for the world to follow about animals and everyone had to follow it...what would that rule be?

Grade 6

Essay topic: In 2060 how will animal shelters be different than they are today?
