The Arlington Fire Department is increasing its tools to vaccinate the community against COVID-19. The Department’s Public Health Unit is currently in the process of transitioning to a new facility.

AFD’s new public health unit is designed to provide greater access to public health services to underserved communities of Arlington.
In part, this location will serve as a second-dose vaccine site, allowing for residents who missed their follow-up appointment at the Arlington mass vaccination sites to easily reschedule.

It will also be home base for Arlington Fire Department’s mobile vaccination efforts. In the coming weeks, AFD will begin taking vaccines on the road. The intent behind this effort is to ensure the homebound, vulnerable citizens and underserved communities are protected against the virus.

“We’re excited to continue serving our community through targeted vaccinations for the homebound, the highly vulnerable, and in parts of the City where historically-underserved populations exist," said Arlington Fire Chief Don Crowson. "The Fire Department’s new public health unit is charged with addressing public health issues in socially-vulnerable areas of Arlington. The facility will serve as the operational base for the Department’s public health outreach programs. The AFD public unit is capable of testing and vaccination services and will work collaboratively with other agencies to improve overall public health in Arlington.”

The Arlington Fire Department will provide more information when the facility opens and mobile vaccine units are deployed. You can follow the Fire Department on Facebook for updates.
