Arlington Parks is happy to announce the completion of MLK Sports Center Playground improvements, which opened to the public early December 2020.

Martin Luther King Jr. Sports Center was the first Audubon sanctioned sports center in the United States, the design and maintenance of the complex is dedicated to environmental sensitivity. The center is located adjacent to Tierra Verde Golf Club at 7001 Golf Club Dr., 76001.

New park playground equipment was installed Fall 2020.

Arlington’s approved $205,184 playground construction provides new playground equipment for age groups 2-5 and 5-12 years. The new playground equipment includes swings, slides, multiple climbing and spinning components and outdoor musical instruments.

The scope of work also included removal of existing equipment and installation of new playground equipment, safety surfacing, and subsurface drainage. The new equipment meets the current American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines for playground safety.

This project was funded through Bond funds. Council approved construction and purchase of playground equipment through Child’s Play, Inc. of Dallas, Texas on August 4, 2020. Visit the City's Bond Tracker webpage to learn more about projects approved by Arlington voters.

The MLK Sports Center Playground improvements align with the Arlington City Council priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods.
