The Arlington Police Department responded to a major crash involving a commercial vehicle and a pedestrian in the 1300 block of E. Abram Street on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 8:47 p.m.

A commercial vehicle consisting of a truck tractor and tanker trailer was traveling westbound on Abram Street in the outside lane. A pedestrian was involved in a physical fight with another pedestrian on the sidewalk when one of the pedestrians lost their balance and fell into the roadway directly in front of the passing commercial truck.

The commercial truck struck the pedestrian causing significant injuries. The driver of the commercial truck did initially stop and check on the pedestrian before driving away from the scene. While officers were still on scene, the commercial truck driver returned to the scene and was interviewed by detectives. At this time, no charges have been filed against the commercial driver for failing to notify emergency services. Investigators will consult with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office on this case.

Nearby video surveillance from a tire shop confirms that the pedestrian was not intentionally pushed into oncoming traffic by the other pedestrian during the fight. This case is being worked as a fatality crash.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been fully notified.
