Covid-19 Vaccine Update

The Arlington Fire Department established an online preregistration system as part of its targeted plan to vaccinate first responders and front-line medical workers with its initial allotment of 3,000 vaccines following state guidelines.

On Tuesday, first responder and healthcare vaccinations had started smoothly when the state unexpectedly expanded vaccine eligibility for those over 65 and individuals with certain medical conditions in order to accelerate vaccine utilization. This announcement immediately generated a large demand from the public and necessitated the closing of the online registration system, because members of the general public began to accessed the system that was initially targeted to healthcare and first responders. As those over 65 arrived at the site, the Arlington Fire Department adjusted its initial vaccination effort and administered all of its 3,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine between Tuesday and Thursday morning.

Next Steps

The Fire Department anticipates its next batch of vaccines as early as next week and that the vaccination process will be an ongoing effort lasting for several months. The Department will make a few adjustments based on its experience this week and evaluate other options to continually improve the process as the mass vaccination effort evolves over the next few months.

The Fire Department asks for patience as it continues to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Other entities in Arlington and Tarrant County are also providing COVID-19 vaccinations, including Tarrant County Public Health clinics, JPS clinics and individual pharmacies. For more information on where the COVID-19 vaccine may be available, please visit the Texas Department of Health and Human Services website.

Vaccination availability information will be provided on the City of Arlington’s website, www.arlingtontx.gov, and the Arlington Fire Department’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
