With New Year’s Eve upon us, and the deserving celebration of the passing of 2020, we ask that you please plan ahead and be safe in your celebrations for the night.

If you plan to travel to a party or small social gathering to celebrate the new year, please make sure if you are drinking to have a ride reserved for you to get back home safely. We all know there are many different choices when it comes to getting a ride whether it be a taxi, designated driver, or app-based ride share option.

Arlington Police, along with their DWI unit, will be patrolling all night ensuring that the streets are safe for all travelers. Keep in mind, Tarrant County recently began the policy of no refusal for all driving while intoxicated charges. If you are arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and refuse to provide a blood or breath specimen, the police will acquire a search warrant signed by a judge to get a blood sample from you to analyze.

Driving while intoxicated in Tarrant County, and specifically Arlington, is completely preventable and there is no excuse to get behind the wheel after you have had too much to drink. We care about this issue because it is something we can effectively plan to prevent and has such devastating results. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were over 10,000 deaths from drunk driving crashes in 2018 alone.

We hope everyone has a great holiday and New Year. The Arlington Police Department will be working the holiday to keep everyone safe. Please help us in this endeavor by making a plan and being responsible, for everyone’s sake!
