2020 Census form

In a year filled with challenges, Arlington residents answered the call to shape the City’s future. Arlington: The American Dream City completed the 2020 Census with a 68.2 percent self-response rate, an increase of 1.9 percent compared to 2010. That is the largest increase for any of the 19 largest cities in Texas.

The City’s self-response rate also outperformed the statewide average. Overall, Texas’ self-response rate decreased 1.6 percent.

“The decennial Census is a huge task, asking everyone in the United States to be counted. I am so proud of the Arlington community, who outperformed prior Census response rates with the added challenge of the coronavirus pandemic," said City of Arlington Senior Planner Sarah Stubblefield. "This is just one more example of how well our residents come together to achieve incredible goals.”

Based on the participation rate increase, approximately 24,000 additional Arlington residents participated in the 2020 Census, compared to 2010. While these numbers do not indicate the final population from the 2020 Census, they do indicate the final count will be more accurate, based on increased participation.

The success of the 2020 Census is in large part due to the incredible work of the citizen Complete Count Committee (CCC). 26 committee members completed over 120 outreach activities from October 2019 to September 2020 encouraging all Arlington residents to complete the 2020 Census. The CCC also advised the city’s social media and digital advertisement campaign which had over 1.3 million combined views targeted in the Arlington area.

The Census count helps fund essential City services, public health programs and grants for local nonprofits. The data will also be used to re-draw Congressional districts.

Thank you for participating in the 2020 Census. You’ve proven, in Arlington, everyone counts.
