Residents Invited to Attend Virtual FY 2021 Budget Town Halls

Residents can learn more about the City of Arlington's $517.7 million proposed Fiscal Year 2021 operating budget at two upcoming town hall meetings, which will be held virtually to protect the public during the coronavirus pandemic.

The meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 1.

In the interest of public health, the Council Briefing Room where the presentations will be made will be closed to the public for the town hall meetings because of social distancing requirements in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. City Council members in attendance will be participating remotely through video conferencing technology.

The town hall meetings can be viewed live on the City's website at https://www.arlingtontx.gov/city_hall/departments/broadcast or through your local cable provider municipal channel. They will also be recorded live and replayed on the government cable channel throughout the week. To watch these meetings, please tune in to:

Members of the public who wish to ask questions or make comments about the budget proposals can send an email to [email protected] to register at any time until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, or call 833-268-8354; Conference ID – 555-605-356# starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, to register to speak. City staff will then call members of the public who register to speak on during the appropriate time of the meeting. About the Budget

The proposed budget for the next fiscal year includes a recommendation for a property tax rate reduction for the fifth year in a row, no increases for residents’ water rates, and slight increases in the garbage collection rate and storm water fee.

The Council will vote on the budget in September after a series of public meetings. The fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

The City Council will also schedule a public hearing during its 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 meeting on the proposed budget and whether to reduce Arlington's property tax rate from $0.6240 cents per $100 of assessed value to $0.6225 cents per $100 of assessed value.
