Arlington's Wonderful Water Series Offers Kids' Activities, Gardening Tips, Money-Saving Advice and More

Cool off at home and have fun while learning all about water! The City of Arlington’s Library and the Water department have partnered to bring residents the ‘Wonderful Water Series’. This free series gives residents the opportunity to participate in virtual programming to enhance our knowledge of water.

This free series gives residents the opportunity to participate in virtual programming to enhance our knowledge of water. From children’s programming to gardening and water conservation, these free programs are sure to entertain and teach our residents.

These presentations are all free to watch, but some do require registration. Registration is not an automatic process, so please sign up in advance of the programs you wish to attend.

Throughout July residents can enjoy the following programs from home:

Virtual Weather Wonders with Meteorologist Maggie

An exciting and educational program about steam, water, snow, and ice. Water is the only natural substance that can take on this many form - naturally! Meteorologist Maggie with her puppet friends will perform magic that will demonstrate various weather phenomena. Ages 5-8.

Grammy’s Spring Show with a Twist

Friday, July 17 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Register here

In this virtual show through Zoom, Martha Warren and her puppet friends will bring a fun and magical show about spring flowers, bugs, & other creatures in the garden. Registration to this event is required to participate. We will send registrants the information to log into the virtual program the day before the program. Ages 2-5.

Care and Repair DIY Sprinkler Workshop

Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Register for free online class here.

Learn some easy do-it-yourself tips for repairing and maintaining your sprinklers. Water conservation expert Dr. Dotty Woodson, Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will lead the workshop.

Repair and maintenance of sprinkler heads can greatly reduce the possibility of leaks, saving both water for the city and money on your water bill. Just one broken sprinkler head can contribute up to 25 thousand gallons of water waste in a six-month watering season. Ages 18+.

Virtual Bubble Wizard Show

Thursday, July 23 - available on Arlington Public Library Facebook

This show full of bubbles, magic tricks, dragons, and fairies. Webster the Bubble Wizard will wow you with bubbles inside bubbles, giant bubbles, and more. Webster will also introduce the kids to Oliver the Dragon and a whole bunch of fairies. Ages 5-8.

Birds, Bees and Butterflies: Gardening for Wildlife

Thursday, July 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Register here. Registrants will receive the event attendance link thru email.

Learn ways to attract and provide a habitat for butterflies…and other animals that bring your landscape to life with activity. The class is being presented by Water University at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center – Dallas. The event will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Arlington Water Utilities will be giving the first 25 residents who sign up for and attend the Birds, Bees and Butterflies: Gardening for Wildlife virtual class a $20 coupon toward the purchase of a UPlantIt Pollinator Garden Box from AgriLife Water University this fall.

The UPLantIt Pollinator box is normally sold for $95. It comes with 32 starters plants of 14 different varieties in individual 3-inch pot and covers up to 125 sq. ft It was designed by two AgriLife Water University garden cultivation experts. Learn more about the UPlantIt Pollinator box here.

Gardens like the UPLantIt Pollinator Garden support City of Arlington initiatives like participation in the National Wildlife Federation Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and Arlington’s Bee City USA designation. Ages 18+.

Virtual Animal Adventure Program

Wednesday, July 29 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 pm Register here.

The Dallas Zoo is presenting this 45-minute virtual program with your favorite animals like reptiles, ambassador birds and more through Zoom. Families will also have a chance to ask the zoo staff questions. Registration to this event is required to participate. Library staff will send registrants the information to log into the virtual program the day before the program. We ask participants to please register days in advance as this is not an automated process. Ages 0 -17.
