The sixth annual Arlington ISD Back to School Kickoff event sponsored by the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation will have a different look this year.

The event, which allows Arlington ISD students to get backpacks, school supplies and more to prepare for the school year, is slated for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at AT&T Stadium. Click here to register for the event or learn more details.

While the location may be the same, the COVID-19 pandemic is changing how the event will run. Unlike in years past where students and families have gone inside the stadium to pick up their supplies, this year’s event will be done drive-thru style with supplies put in vehicles for families.

“We know this will be different from how we’ve done things in the past,” said Parent and Community Engagement Director Aaron Perales. “We have to prioritize the safety of everyone involved. The key is to make sure that students are confident and ready to have a successful school year, and we feel this is the best way to do that in a safe manner.”

There will still be 10,000 backpacks available. The event is for families who are eligible for free and reduced lunches at school. Those who register for the event will receive an age-appropriate backpack filled with essential school supplies.

There will be an online resource fair that includes information about immunizations, vision and dental screenings, haircuts and resources for more support.
