This summer might look different than usual, but some things remain the same. Days are getting sunnier, school is almost over, and the Arlington Public Library is getting ready for another fun season of Summer Reading Challenge! Join us to Imagine Your Story with weekly themed events, book challenges and prize drawings for all ages. Summer Reading Challenge begins May 30 and runs through August 1.

Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to stay busy and have fun this summer. From dragons to giants, castles to magic forests, our librarians have created a different magical theme to celebrate each week.

“Reading and engaging in activities over the summer helps prevent learning loss,” says Stacy Garcia, the Library’s Program Management and Community Engagement Administrator. “But the benefits aren’t just for youth and students. We hope adults will explore new books and experiences with us as well.”

Every week, the Library will post different themed challenges for youth (ages 0-12), teens (ages 13-17) and adults (18+). Complete each challenge to be entered in weekly prize drawings.

While supplies last, children ages 0 to 12 will also receive a free book to keep after completing their first challenge.

Challenges will be posted online on the Library’s Facebook page and website. Library card holders will also receive their challenges in email.

Each week will feature manageable but fun goals, designed by librarians specifically for each age group. Read a book, try a literacy activity, make a craft, interact with family and friends, and more! Don’t forget to fill out a prize entry form for each week.

Summer is always a busy time at the Library and this year will be no exception. With a mix of free online and in-person events, families can pick the level of participation that’s best for them.

In-person events will have careful safety precautions in place, including social distancing and limits on the number of participants. The calendar of events is subject to change as the summer progresses.

Many events may require registration but all are free! Don’t miss this season of summer fun with the Arlington Public Library.
