The City of Arlington has named Keith Brooks as its new Public Works and Transportation director.

The City of Arlington has named Keith Brooks as its new Public Works and Transportation director.

Brooks, who has served as assistant director/city engineer the past four years, began his career with Arlington nearly 18 years ago as a project engineer/civil engineer. During his career, Brooks has been responsible for overseeing activities designed to improve life for residents and visitors, including street rebuilds, daily and special event traffic management plans, and construction inspection services for public infrastructure improvements above and below ground.

"It has truly been an honor to serve the great City of Arlington and the Department of Public Works and Transportation over the years. We have an incredibly hardworking team and look forward to continuing to meet the needs of our citizens and provide great and innovative service,” Brooks said.

Brooks’ duties have included managing the City’s Capital Street Program, which includes implementing voter-approved bond projects such as the Abram Street Rebuild between Cooper Street and the eastern city limits. As assistant director, Brooks also oversaw the traffic management center as well as reviewed, approved and implemented traffic plans for major events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park and Arlington’s other major visitor destinations. He also managed construction inspection services for public improvements related to streets, stormwater, water utilities and parks and recreation as well as private development. His past roles include watershed management.

In addition to working closely with partners such as the Texas Department of Transportation and the North Central Texas Council of Governments on projects designed to enhance mobility through Arlington and the region, Brooks will continue work to prepare the City’s transportation infrastructure for the future of connected and autonomous vehicles.

Before joining the City of Arlington in 2002, Brooks worked five years as transportation engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, Northwest Area Office, Dallas District.

Brooks, who earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas, is a licensed professional engineer with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and a certified floodplain manager with the Texas Floodplain Management Association.

Former Public Works and Transportation Director Mindy Carmichael retired earlier this month after nearly 23 years with the City.
