Unveils New “Star of Texas

The Arlington Museum of Art is opening its Star of Texas exhibit this Friday, November 20, 2015, with a reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The project was unveiled in September and includes 20 fiberglass stars positioned throughout Arlington's Cultural Arts District, Downtown and Entertainment District.

"This project will open people's eyes to art in a very tangible, accessible way," said Chris Hightower, executive director of the Arlington Museum of Art. "By taking art to the people throughout Arlington, we will be able to raise awareness of the cultural arts in Arlington and display the creativity and talent of many local artists to a wider audience."

The stars were designed by local artist Chris Cunningham and are individual pieces of art celebrating the city's brand, Arlington: The American Dream City. Texas artists were invited earlier this year to submit their interpretation of how they would depict the American Dream in Arlington.

"Not only will this exhibit help with the beautification of Arlington, it will help increase public awareness of the city's brand," said Arlington's Marketing Communications Manager Jay Warren. "The American Dream in Arlington represents many different voices and ideas in our community. This project speaks to the diversity of Arlington and the ideas that make us the American Dream City."

The $150,000 project was made possible by donations, including $50,000 by each the Arlington Tomorrow Foundationand Women Inspiring Philanthropy.

The reception will take place at the Arlington Museum of Art, 201 W. Main St., where light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Simultaneously, the Reflection exhibit and the Modern Masters from the Guild Hall Collection will be opening.

The Modern Masters exhibit will feature work from over 60 artists, including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell. This exhibit will be open until February 21, 2016.
