 Workshop Offered

Are you interested in making a difference in a child's life? Have you ever considered foster care or adoption? When children can't live safely at home and no appropriate non-custodial parent, relative, for close family friend is willing and able to care for them, you can help. Learn more at Foster Care and Adoption 101 at the Arlington Public Library.

Foster Care and Adoption 101, a Texas Department of Family and Protective Services informational meeting, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, May 15 at the Southwest Branch Library, 3311 SW Green Oaks Blvd. Registration is not required - simply bring your curiosity and willingness to help.

Foster care is meant to be temporary until a permanent living arrangement is found. However, it can become permanent - usually when a foster parent adopts or accepts permanent managing conservatorship of a child. CPS has a variety of initiatives designed to increase placement options to better match the needs of each individual child.

Learn about placement options and other topics, such as:

  • the basic requirements to become a foster parent
  • the steps it takes to become a foster parent
  • the basics of foster care and adoption
  • the rights of children and youth in foster care
