On June 4, Union Pacific will begin construction to complete the Collins Street quiet zone, installing new signals and gates across Collins, just north of Abram Street. Once the construction is complete, there will no longer be a need for the trains to sound their horns. All three lanes will instead have flashing lights, new gates and new signage at the track location.

According to the Public Works and Transportation Department, quiet zones are designed to decrease noise levels for nearby neighborhoods. Quiet zone signage is posted along the tracks to remind train engineers not to sound their horns. Current quiet zones in Arlington include Bowen, Davis, Cooper, Center and Mesquite Streets. Stadium Drive will eventually join the list of quiet zones in the City when it is reconstructed in the future.

Drivers may experience minimal traffic delays because of intermittent construction June 4 - June 18, 2013. Traffic cameras in the City may be accessed through myarlingtontx.com/up/traffic-webcams. This project is a cooperative effort involving Union Pacific Railroad and the City of Arlington.
