Need some help navigating the new Health Insurance Marketplace? The Arlington Public Library, in partnership with United Way of Tarrant County, is providing informational sessions about the Affordable Health Care Act and enrollment for health insurance. Certified Navigators from United Way will be available to answer questions and assist with the enrollment process. Three sessions will be offered in January:

  • Friday, January 10, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 E. Abram
  • Thursday, January 16, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., East Arlington Branch, 1624 New York Ave
  • Monday, January 27, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., George W. Hawkes Central Library

The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act was signed into law by President Obama in March 2010. As part of the law, most U.S. citizens and legal residents are required to have qualifying health coverage by March 31, 2014. Created through the Affordable Health Care Act, the Health Insurance Marketplace is a website that allows consumers to fill out an application to see the insurance coverage options available from private insurance companies and compare the plans side-by-side. The application will also show eligibility for free or low-cost coverage such as Medicaid or other programs.

The Health Insurance Marketplace, or health insurance "exchange", began enrollment on October 1, 2013, with coverage beginning as soon as January 1, 2014. For information on deadlines, contact United Way of Tarrant County by calling 211. Note that library staff can provide technology assistance in using the library's computers and printers, however; they are not qualified to offer legal, financial or medical advice.

Check the library's website at www.ArlingtonLibrary.org for updated information on dates and times of additional sessions in February and March.
