UTA’s Shortall Named Rawlings All-American

2014 All-American team

UT Arlington designated hitter Matt Shortall was named Rawlings/ABCA Second Team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Shortall was also named to the ABCA 2014 All-Central Region first team.

"This is fantastic recognition for the season that Matt had for us," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "In my opinion, the Rawlings All-American team is the most prestigious because it is voted on by the coaches. Matt had an unbelievable career here at UTA, and is most deserving of this honor."

Shortall was recently drafted in the 10th round of the MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He left UT Arlington as the program's single-season leader in doubles after hitting 26 in 2014.

He totaled 53 doubles in his career, 24 homers and finished with a career batting average of .334. He is believed to be the only player to have played in four different conferences during his career (C-USA, Southland, WAC and Sun Belt).

Shortall was named a Louisville Slugger All-American, a member of the NCAA South Central All-Region second team and a First-Team selection to the All-WAC team in 2013. In 2014, he was named a Louisville Slugger Pre-Season Third-Team All-American.

Shortall is headed to the Williamsport Crosscutters in Short-Season A ball.
