The renowned Jack Hanna, zookeeper and animal conservationist, will delight the crowd with some of his animals Tuesday, Feb. 5, at College Park Center.
A sustainability innovator, an actor-artist-activist, a science historian, an animal conservationist and an actor-playwright-professor make for an exceptionally strong lineup for the 11th annual University of Texas at Arlington's Maverick Speakers Series, a premier event in North Texas that draws the nation's best minds.
Graham Hill will kick off the new season Thursday, Sept. 13, in Texas Hall. All engagements start at 7:30 p.m.
Hill is one of the world's leading figures where entrepreneurialism, innovation and sustainability merge. He is well known for TreeHugger.com, a web-based blog and media outlet that he started and then sold to Discovery in 2007. It's dedicated to driving sustainability mainstream.
Hill was named one of Fast Company's "100 Most Creative People in Business." He also founded LifeEdited, a real estate design, marketing and development firm focused on delivering a new breed of home that packs big function into small spaces, and runs We Are Happy to Serve You, a company that makes the ceramic version of the iconic New York paper coffee cup.

- Terry Crews - The well-known actor and activist will bring his message Tuesday, Oct. 16, to College Park Center. Crews was part of the group named Time Magazine's 2017 Person of the Year. Time called those individuals - all part of the "Me Too" movement - "The Silence Breakers." Crews is widely known for his action and comedy roles, with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" television series and the wildly popular Old Spice advertising campaign topping his acting resume. He also is a former NFL player, who toiled for four teams. Crews also was named People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" three times. He was lauded for his 2014 book, "Manhood."
- Naomi Oreskes, science historian and author, is scheduled to take the stage Tuesday, Nov. 20. Oreskes is the author of "The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change," which laid to rest the idea that there was significant disagreement in the scientific community about the reality of global warming and its human causes. She is a professor of history of science and the affiliated professor of earth and planetary sciences at Harvard University.

Hanna explores the corners of the globe as one of the most respected animal ambassadors in the world. His enthusiasm and hands-on approach to wildlife conservation has won him widespread acclaim as a conservationist, television personality, author and director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds. His infectious energy and popularity have been highlighted in three nationally televised programs: "Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures," "Jack Hanna's Into the Wild" and "Jack Hanna's Wild Countdown."
- Anna Deavere Smith, an actor, playwright and professor, will wrap up the season Tuesday, March 26. Smith is best known for crafting more than 15 one-woman shows based on hundreds of conversations, turning her interviews into scripts and transforming herself into an astonishing number of characters. In 2012, she was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Obama, and in 2015, she was named a Jefferson Lecturer, the nation's highest honor in the humanities. Smith's television credits include "Black-ish," "Nurse Jackie," "The West Wing" and the new ABC legal drama "For the People."
