Gander Mountain, the popular outdoor specialty store for firearms, hunting, fishing, camping and marine products and services, is coming to Arlington.

The Minnesota-based retailer has filed permits to build a 52,000-square-foot store at 3901 S. Center St. on an undeveloped 7.1-acre tract just east of Costco. The estimated cost of construction is $4.2 million.

"The new Gander Mountain store will signify the completion of the Highlands East development, rounding out the variety of retail options in the Highlands and contributing to the ultimate construction of the Center Street Bridge over I-20," said Bruce Payne, Arlington's Economic Development Manager. "The additional sales tax revenues will assist in paying off the TIRZ (Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone) debt."

The new Gander Mountain store will feature one of the largest selections of new and used firearms in Texas, together with the best selection of gear and accessories for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery. The store will offer an extensive selection of men's and women's active outdoor and casual apparel featuring exciting brands such as The North Face, Columbia, GSX, Mountain Hardwear, Under Armour, Carhartt, KAVU, Marmot and Kuhl.

Gander Mountain currently has 14 stores in Texas.
