Some UT Arlington theatre students are bringing James Lapine 's book "Into the Woods " to life through a vibrant musical featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It is directed by Andrew Christopher Gaupp. There will be five shows starting Feb. 25 and running through March 1.
The story includes characters such as Cinderella who wishes to attend the King 's Festival, a baker and his wife who wish to have a child, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. Everyone gets their wish granted, but the story does not end there. The consequences of their actions return to haunt them, resulting in a journey full of surprises.
Theatre student and Prop Manager George Meek has been working for weeks to have all the props ready for opening night. Meek, along with a crew of about ten people, have spent many hours building props like a cow that will roll on and off stage and a chicken made from a donated roller blade.
"The actors and designers started working on the musical last semester. Rehearsals started at the beginning of this semester, " Meek said. "Construction of the set and props also started at the beginning of the semester. "
The Theatre Arts Department invites everyone to come out and support UT Arlington, plus all the students and professors who have worked on this event.
Tickets for the show can be purchased at the box office located in room 144 of the Fine Arts Building Monday-Friday, from 1-4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased the day of the show one hour before show time.
