Food Truck Fridays 2016

The good times and great food are rolling into Arlington, Texas once again for spring 2016! The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's Food Truck Fridays series continues on Friday, May 6! Join Arlington Parks and Recreation for lunch at the Levitt Pavilion between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Each week we will feature a new lineup of food trucks for you to try out. The final Food Truck Friday Lunch will be on Friday, May 20. Food truck line-ups will be announced the Wednesday before each event at www.naturallyfun.org/foodtruck. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to the food truck events, as seating is limited.

Arlington Proud's East Main Street Arts & Music Festival

The East Main Street Art & Music Festival will celebrate its inaugural event from noon to 8 p.m. May 7 at 601 E. Main Street. Event organizers and sponsors, which include Division Brewing, Mavericks Bar and Grill, Arlington Proud and Create Arlington, say they hope to bring an event to Arlington that will enable artists to be able to make a living by selling their artwork locally. Activities at the festival will include a pop-up dog park, a corn hole tournament, face painting, croquet, ping pong, chess, badminton, street performers and more. A Spoken Word Open Mic Hour is set for 5 p.m. The Arlington Animal Services mobile adoption unit will also be on hand.

Hurricane Harbor Opening Weekend

It's finally time to break out the swimwear, slather on the sunscreen, and dust off your sunglasses for a fun-filled season at Hurricane Harbor! The 2016 summer season kicks off May 7-8, 2016 and has plenty of activities planned for the entire family. You can cool off with the kids at Hook's Lagoon with four mini slides, water sprayers and shallow water to splash around in. For the thrills seekers in the family, hop onto Tornado and travel down the 132 foot slide in the mouth of a gigantic funnel. Hurricane Harbor is open both Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can find the complete operating schedule for the summer season on the park's website.

Theatre Arlington Presents My Way, a Tribute to Frank Sinatra

With over 50 classic songs, many of which were made famous by "Old Blue Eyes' himself, this show is sure to be a hit! Come reminisce and honor the past with us and enjoy the music of Frank Sinatra, including: All of Me, The Best is Yet to Come, Fly Me to the Moon, I Get a Kick Out of You, I Only Have Eyes for You, I'll Be Seeing You, It Was a Very Good Year, and The Lady is a Tramp, to name a few. The show opens at Theatre Arlington on Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. with performances running Thursday through Sunday until May 29.

  • Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
  • Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
  • Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Mother's Day Events by Arlington CVB

UTA Maverick Dance Theatre presents: Via Dance

Maverick Dance Company presents VIA DANCE, a collection of progressive dance works by Artistic Director, Amanda Jackson, and Assistant Artistic Director, Meredith Knight, as well as, guest, and student choreographers. MDC offers thought-provoking and entertaining performances each semester at the UTA Mainstage Theatre. The spring semester concert will be May 6-7 at 8:00 pm and May 8 at 2:30 pm, 2016. Maverick Dance Company will perform at the Mainstage Theatre, Room 174, Fine Arts Bldg. North. $7 for students w/ID, $10 general admission.

UTA Planetarium Presents: From Earth to the Universe

Directed by the young Greek filmmaker Theofanis N. Matsopoulos, and featuring a sweeping soundtrack from Norwegian composer Johan B. Monell, viewers can revel in the splendor of the various worlds in the Solar System and the ferocity of the scorching Sun. From Earth to the Universe then leaves our home to take the audience out to the colorful birthplaces and burial grounds of stars, and still further out, beyond the Milky Way, to the unimaginable immensity of a myriad galaxies. Along the way, the audience will learn about the history of astronomy, the invention of the telescope, and today's giant telescopes that allow us continue to probe ever deeper into the Universe.
