Arlington Honors Late Firefighter Donald Hogg at Fire Station 6

The approach to Fire Station 6 has been renamed in honor of the late Donald E. "Don" Hogg, who served as an Arlington firefighter for 23 years until his line-of-duty death in 2009.

Earlier this month, members of the Arlington Fire Department and Hogg's family gathered in front of the South Collins Street fire station to install the new FF Don Hog Way sign and to remember Hogg's love for his career and service to the community.

Hogg, who died at age 49 after contracting Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) while providing patient care during an emergency medical call, was recently honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

During his tenure with the Arlington Fire Department, Hogg received the Medal of Valor and Firefighter of the Year and was also the recipient of the Chief's Five Standards Award. Hogg was also instrumental in the development of the City's HAZMAT team in 1988, on which he served for 21 years.
