Water Tower Updates

Arlington Water Utilities will kick off 2018 with projects focused on two of the city's elevated storage tanks. Work on the Golden West and Tierra Verde water towers will begin in January. Here's what you need to know about each of the sky-high improvements.

  • The larger of the two projects is a major rehabilitation of the Golden West Elevated Storage Tank, located at 3205 Pleasant Valley Lane. The 2.5-million-gallon tank, which was built in 1983, was evaluated in 2014 to identify needed updates. Arlington City Council approved project costs of up to $1,239,950 in 2017. A full rehabilitation, including several repairs and a new coating for the exterior and interior of the tank, is planned. The City of Arlington logo will also be updated. The work is expected to last several months.
  • The second project focuses on the Tierra Verde Elevated Storage Tank at 3205 Pleasant Valley Lane in southwest Arlington. It includes minor repairs on the 1-million-gallon tank, which was built in 2010. The project is only expected to last a few weeks. The Tierra Verde tank typically serves the area to the west of U.S. 287 and south of Interstate 20, including parts of Arlington, Kennedale and unincorporated Tarrant County. Some residents in that area may notice a temporary, slight change in water pressure as the improvements are completed.

Arlington has 10 elevated storage tanks, or water towers, located throughout the city, with capacities from 1 million to 2.5 million gallons each. The tanks allow Arlington Water to maintain consistent water pressure throughout the city during peaks in water demand and provide backup water supplies during fires and other emergencies.
