Brave Combo

Friday, September 2

Just as it has every year since Levitt Pavilion Arlington had its opening night in October 2008, Denton's own two-time Grammy Award-winning Brave Combo will take the stage to open the pavilion's free fall concert series in Downtown Arlington. The conga line-inducing, polka-based music begins at 8 p.m. Friday, September 2.

There truly is no other band quite like Brave Combo. Their repertoire ranges from rockified old-school lounge to tripped-out Latin cha-cha along with the obvious stuff, like polka, twist, samba, hora and the heaviest, most demonic Hokey Pokey ever imagined. Perfect for dancing or listening, Brave Combo is where Jimi Hendrix and Lawrence Welk meet up with Perez Prado and The Boston Pops. Brave Combo was the first band to play at the Levitt Pavilion, and the tradition of having them open every fall concert series has yet to be broken.

Saturday, September 3

When Delta Rae performed at the Levitt the last time, they were riding high on notoriety from having their song, Bottom of the River, featured in the trailer for season six of the popular HBO vampire series, True Blood. The Levitt staff wasn't sure if they could ever have the band back for a return visit. Luckily for everyone, Delta Rae will be part of opening weekend, performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 3.

Delta Rae is best described as Mumford Sons meets Fleetwood Mac an alt/pop band with four lead singers whose music incorporates all aspects of Americana. They have performed at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and Hangout Festival, and they have appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Last Call with Carson Daly.

Sunday, September 4

Finishing the first weekend of fall concerts, Paul Thorn brings his
bluesy rock that's decidedly Southern at 8 p.m. Sunday, September 4.

Paul's music is cherished by his many fans thanks to his down-home perspective, vivid-yet-plainspoken language and colorful characters. It helps that Paul is a colorful, distinctly Southern personality, raised as a preacher's kid in Tupelo, Miss., in the land of cotton and catfish. Paul's music expresses universal truths with his trademark humor and one purpose: To make people feel good.
