Arlington Public Works is leveraging new technology to help keep drivers updated on lane closures, detours, and construction activity around the Entertainment District for today’s Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium.

The 89th Cotton Bowl Classic, which is expected to draw 75,000 college football fans, is the first major event where the City has implemented Causeway one.network as part of its traffic management plan. The digital platform that allows the City to push out real-time traffic information to the public through navigation apps such as Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps. Previously, the City was only able to input traffic information into Waze.

Arlington began using the technology in November as another tool to help manage event traffic, reduce congestion, and improve traffic safety through construction zones across the 99-square-mile city, not just the Entertainment District.

Through the Causeway one.network Live Link mobile app, Public Works, Arlington Water Utilities and contractors in Arlington can also report active construction zones directly to the navigation apps, ensuring that lane closures or detours are immediately available to alert drivers. This real-time info can help minimize the risk of traffic accidents and improve safety for both commuters and construction crews working to improve the City’s street, sidewalk, water and sanitary sewer infrastructure and franchise utilities.

Causeway one.network is used by other major cities such as Las Vegas, where the company said the platform was used to manage complex road closures and traffic flow around the Formula 1 Grand Prix on the Vegas Strip. Arlington, which has major events such as Gold Cup, World Cup and Grand Prix of Arlington coming the years ahead, plans to use this technology long-term.
