City to Begin Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Construction Project

The Public Works Department is pleased to announce the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (Center Street) construction project is scheduled to begin in January 2025. This project will consist of building a new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive roadway connecting East Bardin Road to Engleside Drive, with pavement markings leading to Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard. This project is funded by street bond funds, water bond funds, Tarrant County 2021 Transportation Bond, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) through the Surface Transportation Block Grant.

This project, which is estimated to be completed by October 2025, includes the following improvements:
- A new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive roadway connecting East Bardin Road to Engleside Drive, with pavement markings leading to Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard
- Connection to Embercrest Drive
- Water and sanitary renewals, and storm drainage improvements
- Shared use path, sidewalks, pavement markings and signage, streetlights, fiber communications, landscaping, and irrigation
- Traffic signal improvements at East Bardin Road and West Embercrest Drive
The Public Works Department will be holding a public meeting on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, to provide information on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (Center Street) construction project.
This meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Arlington Public Library – Southeast Branch, located at 900 SE Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, Texas, 76018. There will be a short presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
The purpose of this public meeting is to provide information and answer your questions concerning the construction of this project. Please stop by to see a short presentation detailing the scope of the project and to ask any questions you may have about this project.
This project was approved by Arlington voters in the 2014 Bond Election and aligns with the City Council’s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.
