Arlington Public Library, CitySquare Partner Up for Sixth Year to Provide Free Summer Meals to Children
The Arlington Public Library is serving free meals to children for the sixth year this summer. These meals will be provided by CitySquare twice a week from Monday, June 14, 2021, through Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, at two library locations.
Meals will be served outside the following locations:
Southeast Branch Library
900 SE Green Oaks Blvd.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
East Library and Recreation Center
1817 New York Ave.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.
Like many services, the meal pick-up format has changed. CitySquare staff will hand out meals through drive-thru pick up at the library's parking lots. Families will receive two meals on Tuesdays and three meals on Thursdays per child. Children must be present in the car to receive meals.
“Modern libraries are community hubs,” Library Administrator for Programming and Community Engagement Stacy Garcia said. “Especially at this time, it’s a priority for us to support Arlington’s children and families.”
These meals are free and there are no income or identification requirements to participate. All children must be present to receive food. Unfortunately, parents cannot request food for children who are not with them.
This is the Library’s sixth summer providing meals in partnership with CitySquare Food on the Move, a federally funded nutrition program that meets the needs of children who might go hungry outside of school. CitySquare is one of the largest nonprofit at-risk food sponsors in Texas. Visit their website for more information on their food distribution programs and other services.
