You spoke, and the City listened. Now, on March 23, City employees will present preliminary recommendations for the New York Avenue Corridor Strategy. These recommendations were formed based on input received at the last open house in January and from the project survey. On Saturday, the public will be able to review these recommendations and make comments to assure the proposed concepts meet their vision for the area.

The New York Corridor is a key north-south linkage between the Entertainment District, the Great Southwest Industrial District, the General Motors Assembly Plant, and the IH-20 employment center. The New York Avenue Corridor Strategy focuses on the section of New York Avenue between Abram Street and Arkansas Lane. The project is intended to generate ideas and identify key goals and strategies to create a comprehensive vision to maximize the Corridor's potential for redevelopment. Project goals include creating a functional corridor for all users, providing the necessary guidance to direct public and private investments in the corridor that leverage resources, and supporting strong neighborhoods that add value and improved quality of life for the East Arlington residents.

This is an important time in the project, where the City will begin aligning strategies and goals with the community vision. Participation at Saturday's public meeting is critical, as approval of preliminary recommendations will then lead to a final proposal and implementation plan.

Spanish, Vietnamese and sign language interpreters will be available.
