The Arlington Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old man.

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, at approximately 6:46 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 800 block of W. Mitchell Street to investigate a reported shooting.

When they arrived on scene, they found the 18-year-old man lying unresponsive inside one of the apartments with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

A woman and another man were also in the apartment. They were not seriously injured.

Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned that 18-year-old Teagan Meza, an ex-boyfriend of the woman, came to the apartment and got into a verbal argument with the other three individuals. During the argument, he reportedly pulled out a handgun, at which point the victim and the other two individuals attempted to close the front door on him. Detectives believe during the struggle, Mr. Meza physically hit the other male with the gun and then fired a shot into the apartment, striking the 18-year-old victim.

Mr. Meza left the scene and went to a family member’s home where he was later located and taken into custody without incident.

Detectives also learned that prior to the shooting, Mr. Meza encountered his ex-girlfriend outside of the apartment – and at some point, pointed the gun at her, then fired a shot in the air.

Mr. Meza was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.
