Handitran, the City of Arlington para-transit service
provider, was awarded an American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant of $600,000 to provide
expanded trip opportunites for disabled and elderly
passengers. The 2009 ARRA grant #TX-96-X030-00, will
provide the necessary funds to replace two buses,
purchase additional mobile data terminals for existing
buses, expand taxi trip service and additional
preventative bus maintenance. The bus purchase has begun
with delivery expected in February 2010. The mobile data
terminals have been purchased and installed in the bus
fleet. The expansion of taxi service is underway.
