October 30, 2009 Nixle.com Helps Arlington Police
Communicate With Residents
As part of a continuing effort to keep the community
informed, the Arlington Police Department has started using
Nixle.com. Messages about traffic fatalities, road closures,
homicides and other police incidents that might draw the
attention of residents will be sent to Nixle users’ emails,
phones and the Nixle site. The City of Arlington Office of
Communication has been using Nixle.com since June to notify
residents of community events, services and programs.
Individuals who choose to register with the site and
subscribe to the Arlington Police Department have the option
of receiving messages by email and/or text messages by cell
phone. For those who choose not to register with Nixle.com,
there is an option to view posted alerts by entering a city
name in the bottom right-hand corner of the homepage.
The Nixle.com service is free for users, but cell phone
providers generally charge for text message use.
