How Do I Request Certified
Copies?
Certified copies of Texas birth records
are available at the Arlington Bureau of Vital Statistics. Death records
for deaths occurring in Arlington after April 15, 1971, are also
available. To obtain death records prior to 1971, you may wish to contact
the State
Bureau of Vital Statistics.
Copies of birth and death certificates are confidential under Texas Law
for fifty and twenty-five years, respectively, and can only be
obtained by Qualified Applicants.
Certified copies of birth and death records may be obtained by either:
You can expect to receive your certificate within 2 to 4 weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: Failure to provide the purpose for obtaining the record
and relationship to the applicant in the request, when the applicant is
not the person named on the record, will result in the application being
rejected or delayed in processing.
IMPORTANT: In addition to your written request, you must
include the necessary fees. Make your check or money order payable to the
City of Arlington. Please do not send cash.

Fees For Certified Copies
The fee for each certified copy of Certificate of Birth is $23.00. This fee is non-refundable or transferable
The fee for one certified copy of Certificate of Death is $ 20.00.
Each additional certified copy of the same death record ordered at the
same time is $ 4.00. This fee is non-refundable or transferable
Who Is A Qualified Applicant?
Copies of birth and death certificates are confidential under Texas Law
for fifty and twenty-five years, respectively, and can only be obtained by
qualified applicants.
A qualified applicant is defined as the registrant, or immediate
family member either by blood or marriage, his or her guardian, or his or
her legal representative. Local, state, and federal law enforcement or
governmental agencies and other persons may be designated as properly
qualified applicants by demonstrating a direct and tangible interest in
the record when information in the record is necessary to implement a
statutory provision or to protect a personal legal property right. A
properly qualified applicant may also be any person who has submitted an
application for a request to release personal information and has been
approved as outlined in the Health and Safety Code, Section 181.11,
relating to Requests for Personal Data.
Overnight Services
Overnight services can be available by providing a prepaid return
envelope with your mailed in request.
The State
Bureau of Vital Statistics
does overnight services for Birth or Death Records, at an additional cost.
